Frequently Asked Questions About Ordering a Bucket of Flowers

How many stems are in one DIY flower bucket?

Depending on what the field pumps out at the time of the order, we are mixing thin stems with bulkier ones as well as differently priced stems. Therefore, one large bucket will carry between 90 to 120 quality stems of mixed flowers and foliage. It’s a compilation of focal flowers, supporting ones, airy accents and textural plants, and interesting greenery.

How many bouquets can I make from one bucket of flowers?

Whether you are making a bridal bouquet, a tabletop arrangement or a bud vases ensemble, how many arrangements you actually get will depend on your end goal. To provide some estimate, let’s say you could fill up about 6 to 8 large mason jars with lush bouquets.

Is the bucket included?

No, the bucket itself is not included. The primary reason for that is that we use large plastic buckets for harvesting, conditioning and storing. Whenever we have to deal with plastics in our sustainable approach, we are reusing things over and over again so they don’t get disposed of. Please bring your own bucket. The harvest for one order of bucket of flowers fits into our 5-gallon (19L) bucket. If you are not sure of the capacity of your bucket, bring a few for an order of one DIY flower bucket.

Are the popular focal flowers typical for weddings included?

While sometimes, some of the hydrangeas, ranunculus, foxglove, rare sunflowers, peonies, lisianthus and types of dahlias may be included in your DIY flower bucket, it’s not always the case. Certain specialty crops fall into a category of those that are not easy to source or require more time and effort to produce. As such, they carry a different price tag. Our DIY flower buckets are priced for a mix of blooms and foliage that’s available in the field at the moment of your order, not counting on some of these varieties. If you are looking to add a particular type of flower, we may have them available as straight bunches that you can add to your order of DIY flower buckets. Please inquire at info@oldbarnflowerfarm.com .

Can I request specific colours and types of flowers?

Please leave us a message when selecting your DIY flower bucket, during the checkout or at info@oldbarnflowerfarm.com to tell us more about the colour scheme you had in mind. If you strictly don’t wish to see a certain flower in your bucket, you can say that too and other details relevant to your order. We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to give this to you exactly as you had in mind, but we’ll use your input as a guide to deliver as close as possible. Ultimately, by ordering a DIY flower bucket from us, you have to be comfortable receiving whatever field had produced at the given time.

What will I need to create my own arrangements?

Making floral arrangements is a lot of fun! It does, however, require some talent and plenty of time. Help from your friends counts for a lot if preparing for an event. Arm yourself with sharp snips, vases, perhaps ribbons and wires if making bouquets and wearables. You’ll need an air-conditioned space, out of direct sunlight and any fruits and vegetables lying around. Some items, such as corsages, boutonnieres, flower crowns, have to be refrigerated until use. And of course, get some online tutorials, get inspired by browsing examples and make plans of your end creations. We are not going to lie; DIY flower buckets are a lot of fun and so rewarding, but they do come with a lot of work and care.

How can I transport and store my flowers?

Once cut, flowers need to stay in cool, fresh water and cool and dark space. When coming to our farm to pick up your flowers, you’ll preferably come in a vehicle that can crank its AC strongly, that it has enough space behind the front seats or on top of the back seats, or any back area of taller vehicles, such as an SUV. Foresee the space needed to host your buckets and then the flowers in them, as well as how you are planning to secure them from tipping over during the transportation. Once at your place, again, keep flowers in a cool room, with no direct sunlight and no fruits and veggies in site. A basement works great!

When can I pick up my flowers?

All pick-ups at our farm are by appointment only, so we’ll work those details together once you place your order. When selecting DIY flower buckets, you’ll be able to tell us what your preferred pick-up date is. Typically, this date is during the week or Fridays for most wedding orders.

Do you do last-minute orders?

We don’t do last-minute orders. In fact, we require that you place your order no later than seven days before the pick-up date, and should that timeline be crossed, that order will be cancelled. We can understand that an unfortunate event may happen at the last minute. Perhaps your flower order for a wedding got unexpectedly cancelled. We’ll try to help you if you turn to us. But please, instead of placing late orders through our online shop, please email us at info@oldbarnflowerfarm.com to inquire first. If we determine that we may be able to help you, the late fee of an additional 20% of your order will apply.

For how long will the flowers last?

All flowers are different, and while some may last for four days, others show no slowdown well into two weeks in the vase. This will hugely depend on the conditions they are kept in and their care. Also, some flowers will last longer if cut when not fully open; however, we want those nice showy flowers to be open and pretty for weddings and other events. Overall, it’s safe to say that mixed stems in your DIY flower buckets will last between 5 to 7 days.

Can you deliver my DIY flower buckets?

Please inquire about delivery availability before placing your order at info@oldbarnflowerfarm . If confirmed, we’ll create a new invoice that you can pay online, including the revised price with the delivery fee added.
