Flower Workshop & Farm Events

Immerse Yourself in Local Flowers and Sign up for a Flower Workshop

An hour from bustling Toronto tucked away in rural Uxbridge and the hamlet of Zephyr, our creative paradise gathers flower lovers and gardeners for a seasonal flower workshop. It’s when we all commit the time for ourselves to slow down, connect with nature and each other, stroll the flower field and play with fresh ingredients. Since we are not the farm that is typically open to the public, the flower arranging workshop offers a rare opportunity to take the behind-the-scene peak of flower farming and our sustainable growing practices. Join us for this seasonal experience and let your cares float away, surrounded by beauty and good company.

Let our Field Make You Feel Like a Kid in a Candy Store!

Forget the worries and to-do lists for a moment; bring your compatible soul or do it for yourself and plan this farm visit that will leave you refreshed and reconnected to your senses. We’d love to take all the credit, but the truth is, just being in nature in such a rural setting is already healing. But when we add to it our growing field bursting with such widely different varieties and colours, flowers will surely put a spell on you! And in this candy store, we get to try all the candy during our flower arranging workshop that you will then take home.

You Get Served Flowers at This Bar While You Do the Mixing

Enjoy summer in style and get served at our flower bar, full of buckets of flowers for your pleasure of designing. As the season keeps on changing the look of the field, and our successive planting continue adding rows of cut flowers every few weeks, any date you pick for your farm visit and flower workshop will be filled with gorgeous blooms and accent ingredients. We’ll take our inspiration from the field tour, settle in comfortably outdoors with the abundant garden in the background or in our design studio, depending on the weather, and go through the basics of floral design. After we visit the beds with cosmos, zinnias, snapdragons, celosias, and lace flowers, to name just a few, you’ll get to arrange those same stems already cut, cleaned and hydrated for you. With our demonstration and guidance, you’ll get to design your own masterpiece while sipping a delicious refreshment. Our ultimate goal is to have our guests experience a beautiful and relaxing time on the farm that we love so much.

Frequently Asked Questions About Farm Visit and Flower Arranging Workshop

What happens if it rains?

Good question! The show must go on is the short answer. Hopefully, we will be blessed with nice weather, but we’ll still proceed as planned in case of rain. If everyone packs up umbrellas, raincoats, and rain boots, the field tour is on for a true flower farming experience! There is plenty of time when our farming work has to happen regardless of outdoor conditions, and you’ll get the taste of it rain or shine! However, for the flower arranging workshop and its design session, we’ll crash in our design studio on the lower level of our barn, where the flowers and refreshments will await us, and we’ll have a blast! In case of crazy downpours, thunderstorms, or tornados (jeez, not again!), we’ll reschedule the farm visit altogether for the next day or the following. All the important communication is happening via email with all our participants.

What’s included, and what to bring to the Flower Workshop?

Everything that you will need for the class will be provided. You will get a nice decorative vessel with supporting mechanics inside that we will be working with, and of course, plenty of fresh blooms. Naturally, you are taking all of that home along with some flower food. During the design session, you can borrow our snips, seating is provided, an on-site washroom in one of our farm buildings, and a refreshment station with yummy summer drinks. Access to our Farm Shop is granted too where you can browse our statement necklaces, oil paintings, knitwear and greeting cards.

Come dressed for the occasion, so sunblock and a hat in case of a sunny day or rain gear if the forecast calls for it. Pack your favourite bug repellent (it is country, after all!), comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes for rugged terrain in the field. Have a shallower box with a towel or two in your car to stabilize your floral centrepiece for a drive back home. Oh, and the camera! You’ll for sure want to take some photos to remember the flower workshop experience.

Who can I bring with me?

The ticket is for only one person and applies to anyone 14 or older. In the future, we may be able to offer more family-focused event content in a child-safe environment, but for now, this is what we can provide. The farm is big and wide; we will be walking a lot across the grass and narrow paths of the growing field as it is intended for significant production of cut flowers, not immaculate gardens with resting spots. For anyone with mobility issues or using special equipment, attending these activities would be very hard or impossible. Also, because of the animals on the farm, and for everyone to have a worry-free experience, it’s best to leave your pets at home and save the farm visit for yourself.

What if I can’t attend the event?

Sorry, but we do not offer ticket refunds for a flower arranging workshop or any of our events. It’s best to check your calendar and plan your farm visit ahead of time to avoid surprises. Since it’s very seasonal and, as such, limited in capacity and flexibility, we work hard for every class spot and strive to provide the best experience by planning early. If you would like to gift your ticket to someone else, please inform us of the new participant at info@oldbarnflowerfarm.com. Thank you for your understanding.
